FINANCE-GRADE

What Makes Sustainability Data Finance-Grade?

Finance-grade sustainability data is environmental data that is tested, reconciled and validated with the same controls used in financial reporting, so it can be trusted the same way as financial data.
WHY IT MATTERS

Finance-grade data speeds up business decisions

Sustainability data moves through stakeholder approvals just as quickly as financial data, because GLYNT.AI applies the same reconciliation and audit controls used in financial reporting.

Speed internal reviews

Leadership and peers approve projects and changes faster when the numbers meet their own data quality standards.

Pass investor scrutiny

Outside investors can act on your numbers without months of independent verification.

Secure project funding

Senior management and outside lenders trust the projections and can track your progress.

6 TESTS

Is our sustainability data finance-grade?

Use this checklist to evaluate your sustainability data. You must answer ‘yes’ to every question to meet the high standard of finance-grade sustainability data.

1. Cross-checked

Sustainability data is verified against other business records to catch gaps and duplicates.

2. Centrally recorded

Sustainability data is kept in a single system of record. Without it, none of the tests on this list can run consistently.

3. Forecast-ready

Forecasts of energy, water, waste and emissions are made on time, with no wild outliers.

4. Workflow-approved

Sustainability data is reviewed, reconciled, and approved on a regular cadence, the same discipline as a financial close.

5. Variance-explained

Swings in the data are traced back to real-world causes such as a water leak or a colder winter, never to a data error.

6. Capital-backed

Senior leadership and/or outside parties commit funding against the number, a litmus test of data quality.

HOW TO GET IT

It takes a complete system to deliver finance-grade sustainability data

Finance-grade sustainability data is prepared in a compliant, audited system that goes far beyond a data pipeline. Here’s how GLYNT.AI does it.

End-to-end pipeline

The system includes every step of sustainability data preparation — capture, extraction, verification, customization, and delivery.

Data-level tests

As GLYNT.AI transforms source files into structured sustainability data, we test every data item for accuracy each time it’s touched.

System-level tests

GLYNT.AI cross-checks every file and data point against external sources to confirm nothing is missing and the totals reconcile with other records and requirements.

System monitoring

We monitor the multi-layered system around the clock for uptime and performance, catching failures or drift before they introduce bias or gaps.

Privacy & security

GLYNT.AI’s data system complies with enterprise standards such as SOC 1 and SOC 2, and we are audited each year.

Multi-layer governance

GLYNT.AI provides complete data management reporting, ready for teams, managers and the board.

FAQS

Common questions about finance-grade sustainability data

What's the difference between finance-grade sustainability data and standard ESG reporting?

Standard ESG reporting is typically compiled once a year, using ad hoc systems with limited verification. Finance-grade sustainability data goes through the same regular testing, reconciliation, and audit trail process as financial data, so it can support investment decisions and internal planning throughout the year.

Does finance-grade sustainability data require a financial audit?

No. Sustainability audits are a separate review, often done by a different audit provider. The key audit reviews are the same as for financial audits, including documented approval workflows, compliance with the GHG Protocol and other standards, data handling checks, and system-level controls such as SOC 1 and SOC 2.

Which frameworks does finance-grade sustainability data need to satisfy?

At minimum, the GHG Protocol for emissions accounting. Depending on where the data is used, it may also need to meet CSRD, ISSB, or California’s climate disclosure laws (SB 253 and SB 261), all of which expect the same rigor, traceability, and internal controls as financial reporting.

How long does it take to get sustainability data to a finance-grade level?

It depends on how much of the underlying capture, testing, and governance already exists. Companies starting from spreadsheets typically need a few months to build out the pipeline, tests, and approval workflow. Most companies will have a mix of systems that can be extended and systems that must be built entirely new.

Be confident in your sustainability data.
