As we race to the close of 2021, GLYNT is getting a lot of customer inquiries about “rush jobs” on carbon emissions data.

Our response: No Problem.

Ambitious emissions reduction pledges are often followed by the question, “How will we pay for all of this?” That’s the wrong question.

There is a lot of talk about carbon emissions these days. But where does the data come from? Do you know your carbon emissions number?

For almost everyone, the answer is “no.”

Too often we wait for policy or global conferences to lead the way. But the data is in, consumers are driving interest in climate solutions and it has an impact on stock returns. A recent study from Harvard Business School shows a 1% stock price bump in the days after a company initiates emissions disclosures.

Years ago, Congress commissioned a government agency to “develop an energy display system which, in less than an hour, could give an extremely busy person an understanding of the size and the complexity of our national energy dilemma.” Just what we need today!

Typically markets grow 5 – 15% per year, and in a boom they can grow at 25 to 25% per year. But the value of assets reporting carbon emissions is expected to grow 60X in the next 8 years. That’s something like 55- 60% per year. Whew!

Two years ago, a GLYNT customer sent us thousands of scanned utility bills. It was as if someone had been standing at a scanner for hours, putting stacks of bills through the machine. And accuracy rates were low. But today the situation is entirely different, bad scans are no problem!

Recent research from Rewiring America shows that more than 40% of our emissions come from our homes. For people to take direct action, each household needs a good understanding of their utility bill data. GLYNT has the tools to capture this key data and turn it into the easy-to-use format you need.

The Pew Center issued a key report on verified emissions 20 years ago. The need and challenges remain the same. What’s different is technology. GLYNT solves this problem.

A recent headline from MIT Technology Review grabs our attention: “Hundreds of AI tools have been built to catch covid. None of them helped.” The article summarizes the findings of studies that reviewed hundreds of AI tools intended to help with Covid: Diagnose patients; predict how sick they would get; triage resources and more.

Wikipedia defines an Edge Case as “a problem or situation that occurs only at an extreme (maximum or minimum) operating parameter.” In the world of Scope 2 emissions and utility bills, the phrase “Edge Case” has come to mean a data wrinkle that just makes you scratch your head.

For years the hope has been to make the capture of bills posted to websites, sent as paper mailings or PDFs easy–so easy that you can simply take a photo of the bills with your phone. Now it’s a reality.
